  • REPRESSION 
  • Repression is unknowingly placing an unpleasant memory or thought in the unconscious. For example, repressing an incident at a birthday party.   
  • DENIAL
  • Sublimation is redircting unacceptable, instinctual drives into personally and socially acceptable channels. For example, running to release aggression. 
  • HE IS NOT GONE, HE CAN'T BE!!!
  • Denial is not accepting reality because it is too painful. For example, denying the death of a family member. 
  • PROJECTION
  • Projecting is attributing your own unacceptable thoughts or feelings to someone or something else. For example, being mad at yourself but taking it out on a friend.
  • DISPLACEMENT
  • Displacement is channeling a feeling or thought from its actual source to something or someone else. For Example, punching the wall because you are mad at someone. 
  • SUBLIMATION
