  • In the late 1780's the conditions in France were as bad as it could get. Things like food prices skyrocketed and the King and Queen abused there power. This just made them go deeper into debt than when King Louis xvi took the throne .
  • The estates general was the first meeting of the french since 1614 . A general assembly represented the french, the clergy (first estate), the nobles ( 2nd estate), and the common people (third estate). They were all summoned by King Louis xvi to propose solutions to his government's financial problems.
