Adams says goodbye to his mom, but his mom starts crying. His mom warns him about driving and tells him not to pick up strangers. Adams hugs his mom goodbye and hits the road to California.
Adam arrives at the Brooklyn Bridge. It is still raining and morning. He sees a man leaning against the cable cords. He swerves to not hit the guy and continues on.
*Dials Phone* Hello.
Adams continues and saw him again late that night on the new Pennsylvania Turnpike. Adams sees him standing under an arc light by the side of the road. Adams stepped on the gas pedal and hurried away.
Adams stops at a gas station to get his gas filled up. Adams decides to ask the mechanic about hitchhikers. The mechanic says he has never seen a hitchhiker on this stretch of road. Adams gets confused but decides not to ask anymore and continues on his trip.
After Adams goes through most of his trip but when he arrives to Gallup, New Mexico he feels he needs to call a loved one. He has seen the hitchhiker all throughout the trip and is thinking he is going crazy. He thinks only a loved one could help him gain sanity, so he calls his mom.
Adams calls his mom only to a woman called Ms. Whitney to pick up. Ms. Whitney tells Adams how a horrific accident happened, which ended in the death of her oldest son Ronald. Ms. Whitney tells Ronald that Mrs. Adams, his mother, is in the hospital because of the horrific accident which caused her to have a nervous breakdown.
