  • Nasa (Space race)
  • The Berlin Wall
  • The Red Scare
  • When the Soviet Union sent the Sputnik one into Earth's orbit this struck fear into the United States. With the fear of attacks from the Russians in space the United States quickly started up Nasa to prevent this from happening by getting humans into space. This event eventually sparked the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union.
  • The Arms Race
  • The Berlin wall was built by the Soviet Union between East and West Germany. The wall was very tall with barbed wire, guard towers, and a "death strip". The purpose of the wall was to split Communist East from Capitalist West. This was known as the Iron Curtain.
  • The Berlin Airlift
  • With spread of communism in east Europe and the communist takeover in China this cause what we know as the Red Scare in the United States. Then when two Russians were found telling the Soviet Union United States secrets, a man named Joseph McCarthy had enough. He made a goal to oust communist out of the government and the United States.
  • The Korean War part 2
  • During the Cold war an arms race started between Capitalist America and the Communist Soviet Union. This lead to major spending in nuclear missile research and production. After the Soviet Union collapsed the arms race slowly ended and there nuclear arsenals were reduced.
  • In 1948 Stalin blocked access to Berlin by putting roadblocks and blocking railroads. This prevented food, supplies, and materials rom getting to the people of East Germany. In response to this the United Nations started dropping supply drops in East Germany. One year later Stalin stopped the blockade and supplies wen through with no problem.
  • When Kim il- Sung took power in North Korea he wanted to take over the whole Korean peninsula and unite it under the flag of Communism. On July 25, 1950 North Korean forces backed by Russia and China crossed the border between North and South Korea and attacked South Korea backed by the United States and the United Nations.
