Germany wanted Sudetenland because it had natural defense, such as mountains. There were also other Germans that lived in Sudetenland, along with Czechoslovakians. Germany also wanted to gain Sudetenland back because it was taken away due to the Treaty of Versailles.
Great Britain and France both were afraid that Hitler would take over, so they backed down from Hitler.
Great Britain and France met the demands of Hitler, this was known as an appeasement. Great Britain and France also feared war because Hitler had a stronger army than both Great Britain and France.
