Great Britain and France asked Joseph Stalin, the Soviet leader, to become a part of an alliance against Germany.
Hitler and Stalin had secretly been talking and made the Nazi-Soviet Pact, which said that Germany and Russia would remain neutral of the other went to war.
Hitler and Stalin agreed to divide eastern Europe into spheres of influence, this and the Soviet Union being neutral gave Germany an advantage in war.
