Ronald Adams is saying goodbye to his mother before he leaves on his journey. His mother is sad and scared for him, but Ronald is confident. He finally leaves and sets off on his journey.
Ronald is on his journey and when he is crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, he sees a man standing there. The man is leaning against the pillars and is carrying and overnight bag. Ronald swerves out of the way so he doesn't hit the man.
Ronald is driving around again and sees the same man on the side of the road. He wonders how the man caught up to him. Ronald doesn't stop and keeps on driving.
Ronald is feeling scared about the man he keeps on seeing. He doesn't want to be alone in the car anymore, so he picks up a girl who is hitchhiking. The girl thinks he is crazy because when Ronald sees the man again, she doesn't see him. Ronald serves and tries to hit the man, but only hits a fence. The girl gets out of the car and gets picked up by a truck.
Ronald is scared and alone so he decides to call his mom. He stops at a near by auto camp and uses the telephone. When he gets on the phone, a Mrs. Whitney answers. He asks if his mother is there and she tells him that his mother is in the hospital for a nervous break-down because of the death of hen Ronald.
Ronald is very confused about this, but finally figures it out. He had died on the Brooklyn Bridge when he swerved out of the way to not hit the man. Ronald is still trying figure out who he is and who the man on the side of the road is.
