  • After WW2 the US wanted to help in rebuilding Europe. They sent $13 million dollars to 16 nations to assist in economic recovery. They sent aid in food, staples, fuel, and machinery.
  • The Korean War Part 2
  • Germany was divided into 4 zones, each controlled by Great Britain, France, US, and the Soviet Union. The soviet union had control over Berlin. They blocked access to Berlin from external supplies and food hoping they would surrender and fall under their control. The US, France and Great Britain all decided to help them by flying in food and supplies to them. 
  • NASA
  • After the cold war, the atmosphere was tense in regards to politics. The U.S. became involved in the Korean War on June 25, 1950. War broke out along the 38th parallel. 
  • The Berlin Wall
  • North Korea, run by Kim II Sung, was supported by the Soviet Union and the peoples of the Republic of China. South Korea, run by Sungman Rhee, was supported by the United Nations, the U.S. and Great Britain. A cease agreement was signed on June 17, 1953. 40,000 Americans were killed. 
  • NASA sent the first artificial satellite, sputnik, to space. It launched new political, technological, military, and scientific development.
  • Communist East Germans built a wall so that East Germans could not flee to West Germany or any other area. It was 12 feet tall and 4 feet wide and encircled all of East Germany.
