  • Ronald is saying goodbye to his mother before he leaves for an eight day trip. Ronald is going to California. As Ronald was leaving he was in high spirits.

  • Do you want a ride?
  • Ronald is driving across the Brooklyn Bridge when he sees a hitchhiker. He swerved to miss him when he stepped off the walk into the road. Ronald gets off the Brooklyn Bridge and continues on his way to California.
  • Climax
  • Ronald sees the hitchhiker again while crossing the Pulaski Skyway over the Jersey flats. He then sees the man again on the new Pennsylvania Turnpike, he then pulls off the get some gas at a mechanic shop. He asks the mechanic if there are any hitchhikers around to try to see if he was just seeing things.
  • Resolution
  • Ronald picks up a girl on the way to California and gives her a ride, because he is freaked out from continually seeing the hitchhiker. Soon after he picks her up, he tried to run the hitchhiker off the road. the girl thinks he's crazy, because she didn't see the hitchhiker. The girl got out of the car and ran away.
  • Ronald tried to call his mom through a pay phone, in Gallup, New Mexico. He deals with the operator, then the long-distance operator, and then the New York operator who connects him to his house. Then he is told that he himself has been dead for the last five days.
  • Ronald mom had been in the hospital for five days after she heard about her son's death. She had a nervous breakdown. After Ronald is told this he goes silent and doesn't say anything else as the operator tries to get him to pay more money to continue the phone call.
