The Texans used a system called cattle drives, cattle drives are a way to transport cattle and herd them to the Rio grande. They do this to supply beef and other meat to the military. In the war cattle supported Spanish and American armies.
Everybody wanted a job in the oil business, or farming. Small towns boomed when the oil company started to get bigger and there were more promises made. Like a small town named Beaumont had 9000 people in the city and it reached 50,000 in just 2 short years.
They started to grow more more cotton because it brought in more money, so many farmers started to grow only cotten. That’s because they grow it in a dryer region. They needed a railroad because they wanted to ship cotton out of state. Railroads also provided a cheaper way to ship the cotton.

The cattle were important because they were well suited in texas. They ate a lot of native grasses. They can also endure hot and cold weathers, these strong animals even eat cacti during drought!

There were a lot of people wanting a job in the oil fields, which means a lot of these towns were crowded. More of these people were more worried about drilling oil than the planning. These towns are dirty and rough and most of the people living there lived in tents or wooden shacks.

Businesses boomed and the some of that included crops being able to be shipped out, and shipments could be made to texas. City populations increased because of the pacific railroad. They mainly grew in junctions or a meeting place.
