- After hearing of the tale of king hrothgar and how for 12 years his kingdom was under attack by grendel, he searches for the mightiest men in his journey to conquer the monster
- Beowulf´s speech
- After recruiting the best men beowulf sets out on his journey to kill the demon grendel and save king hrothgar from him
- Hrogthar speech
- Beowulf and his men are me by one of the kings men and are told to leave their weapons behind because the king has not yet determined if they are actually here to help or take over his empire.
- Beowulf talks to hrothgar about letting him defeat the monster known as grendel and that he will do it fairly with no weapons and that if he were to die for him to simply bring his armor back to beowulfś king
- Hrothgar tells beowulfś of how his men fought bravely and were not cowards and tried to defeat grendel but the monster was just too much for them to handle and they were felt so dishonorable because they had to flee and leave their king because of the safety of their families.
