Blast it Johnny! You sure you want to go back? Us greasers get it worse and you know that.
We're turnin' ourselves in. I got no record with the fuzz and it was self defense.
Oh my! Did we start that fire, Pony?
We must've dropped alighted cigarette! That thing's burnin' like the Great Chicago Fire!
Listen, Johnny. We're gonna be gallant and save those kids.
If that fire doesn't gobble us up!
Johnny, Pony and Dally are getting breakfast at Dairy Queen when Johnny explains that he wants to turn himself in. Pony isn't surprised as Johnny's already told him his plan, but Dally is shocked that Johnny still wants to turn himself in after all the trouble they went through. Dally tries to convince him not too, but Johnny's made up his mind and that decision is final.
Come on, Johnny, hurry up. We're coming, kids!
Pony, Johnny and Dally are riding in Dally's car back to Tulsa so Johnny could turn himself in and Pony could meet Soda and Darry when they see the church on fire. Johnny and Pony are shocked and they both have a really bad feeling that they were the ones that caused the fire and they needed to make sure nothing bad was going to happen because of the fire.
Relax. They're in the other ambulance. We're taking you guys to the hospital.
Where are Johnny and Dally?
When Pony and Johnny reach the fire while Dally is still on the way, they ask a local what's going on. They then learn that a group of kids were playing in the church earlier and are still in there. After hearing the loud scream of a child, they decide that they must be brave and save those kids whose lives were in danger because of their careless acts. This shows that even greasers have good hearts, too.
I'm sorry Darry! I didn't want to worry you!
I thought we lost you like we did Mom and Dad.
When Pony and Johnny jump through a broken window to get in the church, they see the group of kids huddled in the corner, crying and screaming like crazy. Since they believe the fire was their fault, they are determined and encouraged to save those little kids and possibly even redeem the earlier crime they committed by killing Bob.
After Darry slaps Pony on the back and he passes out, he regains consciousness in an ambulance with one of the town folk. He learns that they are being taken to a hospital and Dally and Johnny were in the other ambulance. Being very concerned with the condition of his friends, especially Johnny, he can't calm down and is extremely worried.
When Pony reaches the hospital, he is very happy to hear that his two brothers have come to meet him. He meets Soda and Darry and sees that Darry is crying which is a big deal. To know that Darry didn't even cry at their parents' funeral, it must mean he loves Pony an extreme amount to be crying now.
