Once a long time ago, Ranginui, the sky father, and Papatuanuku, the earth mother were seperated by their own offspring.
The second eldest, Tawhirimatea, became angry. By tearing out his eyes and throwing them into the sky, he made the seven stars of Matariki
Even to this day, we still celebrate Matariki. Matariki is the sign of Maori New Year. There is feasting and celebrating on that day, all because of the rage of the god of the winds, Tawhirimatea.
