Storyboard Text

  • Here, I can help!
  • I just don't understand synthetic division
  • So lets say the equation is x(4)+3x(3)-5x(2)+x-16 / x-1
  • That already sounds so complicated!
  • Its actually pretty easy! first you have to figure out what you are dividing by, by setting x-1 = 0. Then by solving that you know x=1, so you're dividing by 1.
  • Then we have to set up the rest of the problem
  • Okay, that's a start.
  • Next thing we have to do it take the first number from each term in the equation and line it up next to our 1.1 l 1 3 -5 1 -16Then we move our first digit down and start multiplying and adding
  • That makes a little more sense!
  • So it's like this...1 l 1 3 -5 1 -16 1 1 4 -1 0 1 4 -1 0 -16For this problem there is a remainder, therefore x-1 isn't a factor of the equation
  • I see! And if the remainder was 0, then x-1 is a factor
  • Exactly! Great job!!
  • I finally understand! Thank you so much!
