  • The narrator explains to the readers how the old man never wronged him nor given him insult.
  • "I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture -- a pale blue eye."
  • Every night just around midnight the narrator would walk in and watch the old man as he slept.
  • what is going on in this boys head????
  • "I was opening the door, little by little, and he not even to dream of my secret deeds"
  • The old man wakes from his sleep when the narrator's thumb slips on the tin fastening of the lantern.
  • "It is only a mouse crossing the floor or a cricket that has made a single chirp"
  • The narrator drags the old man to the floor and pulls the heavy bed over him.
  • "I admit the deed! --tear up the planks the planks! here, hear! -- It is the hideous beating of his heart!"
