  • Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth President of the United States. He opposed the expansion of slavery. Lincoln led the Union during the Civil War.
  • Population Advantage
  • Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman, George Meade, and George B. McClellan were all Major military leaders during the American CIvil War.
  • Industrial Advantage
  • The Unions main Military strategy was a plan to slowly choke and suffocate the South. It was Suggested by Winfield Scott.
  • Transportation Advantage
  • There were around 30 million people living in the United States during the Civil War, 21 million in the North and 9 million in the South. Of these, over 3 million fought as soldiers in the war, 2.1 million for the North and 1 million for the South.
  • The Union contained 90% of the nations factories. They were able to easily and efficiently create as many guns, boots, and clothing for there use in the war.
  • The Union Contained 72% of the nations total railroad tracks. They were able to easily transport gear and soldiers all over the nation, as well as being able to quickly transport insured troops to places were they could get help.
