Storyboard Text

  • Leiriope inquired of the blind Theban prophet, Teiresias, whether her newborn son would live a long life.
  • Only if he never knows himself
  • Will my baby, Narcissus, live a long life?
  • Leiriope, the sea nymph, had a baby boy and named him Narcissus.
  • So, not knowing what the prophet meant, she kept all mirrors away from Narcissus
  • But because she could only repeat the last words she heard, she couldn't communicate with him, and he didn't find her attractive.
  • One day, when Narcissus was hunting, Echo, the forest nymph who was cursed by Hera, saw him and fell in love with him.
  • So Echo went back into her cave and decided not to talk or see anyone, for nobody would ever love her.
  • He then stayed by his love through everything. He did not eat, he did not sleep, he only stayed by his love.
  • But when Narcissus was drinking out of the stream, he saw his own reflection and fell in love with it.
  • Until he realized that it was his reflection he had fallen in love with. He was so sad and continued to stay by his reflection until he died.
  • He reached into the stream to touch and kiss his love, but could not touch him. He did not know why.
  • The End
  • Echo had watched her love die, and was in tremendous pain as she watched his body turn into the beautiful flower, Narcissus.
