  • The White family is sitting in the living room while talking to an old friend about a wish granting monkey’s paw.
  • Falling Action
  • The son, Herbert, dies at work by getting caught in a machine and the place he worked pays the White family 200 pounds.
  • Resolution
  • After wishing for Herbert to be alive again, Mr. and Mrs. White hear knocking on the door and they assume it’s Herbert back from the dead.
  • Superstition
  • Mrs. White opens the door to find no one when expecting to find Herbert. She goes out on the porch and cries.
  • Herbert remains dead because of the final wish.
  • Beginners luck is the thought that when someone tries out a sport or game for the first time they are likely to win.
