Storyboard Text

  • Hey! Are you ready for the first day of school?
  • Yeah, I'm especially excited for AP Lang
  • I wonder what we're going to learn in AP Lang
  • I heard that one of the things we're going to learn is how to create a strong argument.
  • Appeal to sense of reason
  • Appeal to sense of emotions
  • You must provide EVIDENCE: facts, examples, statistics, etc.
  • Appeal to sense of ethics
  • Good morning class! Today we're going to be learning how to write a good argumentative essay
  • Ethos: argument based on ethics or credibility Pathos: argument based on drawing on the audiences emotions Logos: argument based on logistics or statistics
  • You need to make a claim, or the stance that you are arguing. Once you make your stand, all of your evidence should support that your claim is right.
  • Use ethos, pathos and logos to support your argument.
  • 1. Defend a position that you agree with 2. Challenge a position you disagree with 3. Qualify an argument by choosing a side but showing how the other side has a valid point
  • You have three options when you are making your stand
  • Argumentative essays don't seem too hard!  All you need to focus on is making a strong claim, choosing evidence based on ethos, pathos, and logos, and show complex ideas.
