Columbus got rich quickly and had lots of money, power and slaves, he was also promised a high rank in Spain. He was praised by many and Spain gained lots of power. This also opened up trade between the “new world” (America) and Europe where they traded cotton and rubber for spices plants and slavery.

When he comes back to Spain life goes downhill and he has to go to jail. For the last 18 months of his life he was very unhappy because he was promised a high rank in Spain but due to his mental state King Ferdinand denied him of this rank. Many new diseases exchanged from the “New World” (America) were also introduced to Spain.
LONGTERM CONSEQUENCES
Columbus died from a disease that was thought to have been caught by him on one of his voyages. He also died unhappy and thinking he discovered a part of Asia but was actually a whole new continent.
