  • I believed the south should be able to decide for themselves. My policies were initially supported by most Northerners, even Republicans.

  • Many white Southerners, as well as President Andrew Johnson, challenged the Bureau's legitimacy, sparking racial violence in the South and the ultimate failure of the Bureau.To help freed people achieve economic stability and secure political freedoms.
  • The freedmen’s bureau is going to get help. The freedmen’s bureau helped the African Americans get food, money, jobs and education.
  • The United States federal government pulling the last troops out of the South, and formally ended the Reconstruction Era.
