  • During a game of catch with Asher, Jonas notices a change in the apple they were throwing back and forth. He can’t quite understand why he is the only one seeing this change. What Jonas doesn’t know is that he has the Capacity-To-See-Beyond, which is his ability to see the color change red in the apple.
  • The Unexpected
  • They can’t help it. They know nothing. I am so sorry Jonas.
  • This is the plan to Elsewhere, you have to proceed with caution, Jonas please be careful.
  • Jonas has been skipped to get his Assignment and this is because he has been chosen to be the next Receiver of Memory. At first the audience is shocked at this very rare selection, but once they hear all of Jonas’s important attributes to the most honorable role in the community they start to accept him.
  • The Plan
  • The Giver has given Jonas almost of all the memories of what it was like “Before Sameness”. Jonas now can see all colors and has learned that his experience with the memories of pain and loss led him to understand solitude and it’s joy through the happy memories.
  • The Journey To Elsewhere
  • The Giver shows Jonas the video of his father performing an early release on a twin. When watching the video, Jonas finds out that his father killed the baby. Jonas is very upset that his father lied about the truth of release and refuses to go home after his training. The Giver calms him down by offering a plan. This drives Jonas to really have hope in taking an action to finally make a change to the community.
  • Why is he doing this?
  • The Giver and Jonas continue making the plan to escape the community and try to go to Elsewhere, so Jonas’s memories can be released out into the community. Therefore, leading to the society having to deal with pain and the ability to experience real feelings. The plan consisted of The Giver staying back to help those who are struggling and Jonas leaving the community late at night taking just leftover food and a bike. Eventually, Jonas has to make last minute accommodations to take Gabriel so he doesn’t get released.
  • I will
  •  On the journey to Elsewhere Jonas and Gabriel go through some tough times that make Jonas concerned for their survival. They experienced a change in the weather, saw new animals, saw changes in the landscape, and went through major starvation when the food Jonas brought ran out. Jonas could feel they were getting closer and closer to Elsewhere. He just had to bear through the pain of his sprained ankle.
  • I’m hunguey!
  • I know, soon Gabriel
