Elements are only upper case letters while compounds have two. Elements have one atom. compounds have different elements. An example of an element is H or hydrogen and a compound is H2O which is hydrogen 2 times and oxygen.
Then we also have molecules that have a group have of more than one atom, so a compound will always be a molecule.
So when I use one atom its an element and when I use two its a compound.
