Wait, Devon, will you meet me at my desk, please? It won't take long.
Are you serious right now man? Of course i'll go! Thanks so much teach.
Yeah! I'm glad you can go. Meet him at the library at 10:00.
What am I going to do? Am I going to tell coach I can't make the game, or miss a once in a lifetime opportunity?
Yesterday as soon as the bell rang, I quickly grabbed my things so I could get to the corner store and get a birthday present for my mom. Just as I was stepping out the door, Mr. Ward called me over to his desk.
Yo jumpshot what are you doin?! You are late! We have been waiting for you for 20 minutes! Get your uniform on and head to the gym!
Mr. Ward explained to me that a famous poet had heard of our open mike fridays, through the news, and wanted to meet one of the poets who participates. Mr.Ward told him about a few students including me and apparently Claude chose me as the student he wanted to meet.
Thank you. What I came to say was that I have recieved a great poetry opportunity with Mr. War so I will be missing the basketball game on Saturday. Good luck." I ran out of te gym before he could say anything.
First of all I told you to quit calling me jumshot! What kind of name is that?
As I ran out the door with excitement, I remembered that we have a b-ball game at 10:15 on Saturday. Dang.
I guess being my self is alright and if the brothas cant handle it I can find a certain someone from the library to eat lunch with.
I knew what I had to do. I ran through the school until I reached the gym. Basketball practice was going on right now. I slowly walked into the gym. The brothas and coach all stopped and stared at me.
Coach stared at me as I spoke, "I told you I was going to miss practice today last Thursday because of my moms birthday, and you said that was fine but that's not what I came here to tell you."
As I left the school I thought about how I got the name jumpshot. It was my freshman year and I was on the varsity team. It was a big deal. It was the first game and the score was so close and I made the game winning shot. People rushed out onto the court and started chanting "Jump shot, jumpshot" as they lifted me up into the crowd.
