there is a lot of conflict between the greasers and socs. bob and his gang track johnny and pony to the fountain and they start to fight. and johnny kills bob. this is important b/c it shapes the story. if johnny had not killed bob they would not have gone to the church and neither johnny or dally would have died.
the fire from the church had a big impact on the story. as dally picks up johnny and pony from the church and they leave the hear bells from a fire truck and head back. some kids are stuck in the building so johnny and pony rush in to save them and soon dally follows. this is important b/c it changes dally and pony b/c johnny is severely burned and injured. this leads to dally getting killed later.
johnny's death greatly affects pony b/c they are really close. as johnny is dying in the hospital Dally and pony visit him after the rumble and he is dying. dally is really messed up when he see's johnny dying and after he dies dally runs out and the nurse gives him the book. this is important b/c dally goes and gets himself killed. then pony is really depressed.
