Storyboard Description

Between America and Britain, what caused the Revolution to take place? That is what my comic will show.

Storyboard Text

  • It is 1763, Britain won the French and Indian War and is now faced with a huge debt because of the war.
  • 1763, French and Indian War ended
  • Uh-oh, we have to pay for the war...
  • The only way for Britain to pay the enormous debt is to tax the colonists.
  • VICTORY IS OURS!!!!!!!!
  • It's 1765, and colonists are faced with something very upsetting. Britain has taxed the colonists!  It was called the Stamp Act and it required the colonists to pay for almost all paper materials.

  • To buy my newspaper, I had to purchase a stamp along with it!
  • My playing cards requied me to pay a tax!
  • The colonists felt their freedom had been threatened because they had no say in the taxes or in the law.
  • The Townshend Act has just been placed on the colonists! It's 1767, and now the colonists have to pay a tax for paper, paint, lead, glass, and tea.

  • But Mother, the tea at the local market has been taxed! I heard from the nearby journalist.
  • Dear, would you be so kind and purchase some tea from the market?
  • Goodness me! I cannot believed Parliament didn't invite representation form the Colonies!
  • The colonists noticed the indirect tax. This is another example of taxation without representation.

  • A mob of angry colonists begins to harass British troops. British troops open fire in self-defense.

  • Fire at us, you Lobsters!
  • Colonist believed the British were at fault for murdering five colonists, even though the colonists were threatening and daring the soldiers to fire at them.
  • Lexington and Concord 1774
  • Parliament has rejected petitions from colonists for change, and British troops decide to seize all colonial weapons.
  • Okay Son, time to go hunting!
  • But my family needs food! And we need to protect and defend ourselves with the weapons that we own!
  • Don't go too soon, I am going to take away ALL of your weapons!!!
  • This was essentially the first battle of the Revolution, and it led to war.
