Elmer belonged to a heard of elephants. All of the elephants were the same, grey colour. But Elmer was different. He was patchwork and colourful.
Elmer always made the other elephants laugh and smile.
One night, Elmer decided that he didn't want to be different anymore. While the other elephants were asleep, he wandered through the jungle, being recognised and greeted by the other animals as he walked by.
Soon, Elmer encountered a tree with grey berries. He shook the tree and the berries fell to the ground. Elmer rolled in the berries, their grey colour covering his patchwork. Elmer now looked like all the other elephants.
As Elmer made his way back to the heard, no one recognised him. Elmer noticed that the elephants were silent and standing still. In a booming voice, he called out, "Boo!" The other elephants were surprised and instantly recognised him.
Elmer realised that no matter how much he changes his appearance, he will always remain his true self, a kind and joyful elephant, who was always colourful on the inside.
