  • ECONOMIC
  • the economy of Plymouth consisted of whaling, fishing, and timber. They could not grow many cash crops due to the rocky soil.
  • GEOGRAPHICAL
  • The geographical area of Plymouth was a rocky beach(Plymouth Rock), so it was very hard to grow crops like Jamestown. They luckily made peace with the Indians, who gave them food for the winter, hence Thanksgiving.
  • POLITICAL
  • King Charles I was the current king in 1620, but the Pilgrims formed the Mayflower Compact as their government.
  • SOCIAL
  • There were three main social groups in Plymouth, the Puritans, The Pilgrims, and the Indians. The Puritans were very strict, they focused on doing three things(mostly related to religion). The Pilgrims no longer wanted to be a part of the Church of England, so they came to Plymouth. One day in Massachusetts, a group of girls violated the three daily things and were accused of witchcraft. This lead to the famous Salem Witch Trials.
  • Jamestown was a surprise because they had so many problems and obstacles in their way of success. They had water problems, Indians, and bad government until John Smith showed up and got everything together.
