Because the judge has realized this was James first offense she offers him a plea bargain of 20-35 years in prison instead of 45 to life if they would go to trial.
Ok, please take him away.
James would you like to take the plea bargain?
Yes your honor I agree to all of the charges on me.
James spends the next 27 years in prison thinking about what he has done. By the time he gets out he is 47 and on parole.
James is on parole for the next 3 years; is not aloud to drive after 8:00 at night and can only go to work and home. When his parole officer comes by and if he asks for a drug or alcohol test James can't argue and has to give it to him. If anything is found in his system his parole goes up by 6 months.
James is now 70 years old. He has gotten off parole and has his drivers license back. Although he has never been married or had any kids. His entire life was ruined by this one bad decision that he made when he was 20 years old.
