Beowulf took 11 men and the slave that originally found the dragon's barrow. It was hard to convince the slave to go in. Before entering Beowulf had a bad feeling about how this was going to end for him.
Man, I'm going to die..
Beowulf put on armor and grabbed a weapon, something he didn't do in prior battles. Beowulf had fought the dragon three times unsuccessfully. The 11 men and slave all ran away in Beowulf's time of need.
WHY DID THEY LEAVE?!
He was good to us!!
Wiglaf knew that Beowulf needed their help. He talked about all the great things Beowulf had ever done for them. Wiglaf knew how to fight because his ancestors were great fighters.
Wiglaf was the only one to go and help Beowulf. Wiglaf stood side-by-side with Beowulf to try and aid Beowulf in defeating the dragon.
Beowulf was fatally wounded when the dragon bit him and injected poison into Beowulf. Beowulf knew these would be his final moments.
Wiglaf injured the dragon and Beowulf found the strength to finish it off. After the dragon was dead, Beowulf instructed Wiglaf to take the treasure from the dragon for himself and Beowulf.
