Storyboard Text

  • Verbal Irony
  • I shall not die of a cough
  • Situational Irony
  • I, Fortunato...
  • Dramatic Irony
  • Wait... you're a mason?
  • Yes of course.
  • This is verbal irony because Fortunato will die, just not because of the cough.
  • Foreshadowing One
  • True, True.
  • It is situational irony because his name is Fortunato which sounds like fortune but he isn't fortunate at all.
  • Foreshadowing Two
  • He's dressed as a fool
  • It is dramatic irony because Fortunato thinks the Montresor is a mason but the reader knows he is not.
  • Foreshadowing Three
  • This scene that also happens to be irony is an example of foreshadowing because the Montresor seems so sure that he wont die of a cough like he knows how he's going to die. Foreshadowing his death.
  • I shall not die of a cough
  • The way Fortunato is dressed foreshadows how he will become the Montresor's fool when he's lured to his death.
  • The Montresor purposely got his servants to leave so there would be no witnesses to what he was about to do, foreshadowing he'd commit murder
  • Let's get out of here the Montresor is out for the night!
