In the Seventh Grade the main character Victor is gonna get his girl...Teressa. Victor is a big time stocker. He watches Teressa’s every move.
CD “What classes are you taking?” Michael said, scowling. “French. How ’bout you?” “Spanish. I ain’t so good at it! Even if I’m Mexican.” (Soto 7)
CD They ate slowly, Victor scanning the horizon for a glimps of Teressa. He didn’t see her. She must have brought lunch, he thought, and is eating outside[…] he moved his lips as if he was reading, but his mind was somewhere else. He raised his eyes slowly and looked around. No Teressa[…] then he saw her. She was sitting with a girlfriend under a plum tree. (Soto 9 & 10)
Victor was in the same French class as Teressa. The French teacher asked if anyone already knew French. Victor raised his hand to impresss Teressa(when he didn’t know French) and the teacher called on him. Victor faked it and the teacher saw that it was obvious, but he didn’t call Victor out.
“I didn’t know that you knew French,” she said. “That was good.”[…] Victor couldn’t stand to look at Teressa. He was sweaty with shame. “Yeah, well I picked up a few things from movies and books and stuff like that.” They left the class together. Teresa asked him if he would help her with her French. “Sure anytime,” Victor said. “I won’t be bothering you, will I?” “Oh no I like being bothered.” (Soto 12)
I learned from the story that Victor is a desperate man and a huge stocker. Although he is a little crazy 😝 he does have a lot of courage and is very brave to stand in front of your class and fake speaking a language.
