Manuel was the fourth of seven children. He looked a lot like the other kids in the neighborhood. He was getting ready for his talent show. He was going to sing Richie Valen's song La Bamba.
''Hi i'm Gary Soto and I am the author of La Bamba''.
Manuel was really nervous about the talent show. He was with his friend Benny and he was talking to him about the talent show. He was practicing every time at rehearsal. Tomorrow was the big day where he will sing in front of everyone.
''It's cold out here''.
Today was the day that he was going to sing. He was backstage with Benny who was playing the trumpet. Before he went on a girl in a tooth costum came out and sang a song. It was finally his turn and he was ready. Right when he walked out the song started.
