Doss, a simple nice taxi driver, is driving the talkative man back to Malgudi. It was about eleven and very dark when they passed the village of Koopal.
A man runs out in front of the taxi, from a temple, that only Doss sees. Doss gets out of the car and the talkative man starts questioning whether or not he's drank at all. They get back in the car, and the ghost then possesses Doss's body.
Both the talkative man and Krishna Battar (the 80 year old ghost) are trying to figure out what is going on. The talkative man begins to come to a conclusion whenever Krishna starts talking about the great king who always came to visit his temple.
The talkative man declares that Krishna Battar must be dead. He remains calm about it and asks if he has anyone who cares about him.
Krishna says no-one but his wife who passed four years before he did. The talkative man says he needs to think about her alot to find her. Finally, he sees his deceased wife, Seetha, and leaps out from Doss's body while Doss remains faintly breathing on the ground.
The talkative man goes to a cottage and they say there is often violent knocking on the doors at night and something bothering the bollocks. He ventures that they're unlikely to be troubled anymore and when he passed months later and all was calm, he was right and Krishna Battar had left with his wife.
