At the beginning of the Short Story, there are 2 of the main characters Rainsford and Whitney. Rainsford and Whitney started to talk about hunting and also looking for an island called Ship-Trapped island. Rainsford and Whitney are hunters and want to hunt on the island.
A little bit after Whitney and Rainsford were talking they went to bed but then were woken by gunshots. Rainsford jumped quickly and then a little bit later fell off the boat. He was caught on something but then broke free and went to the gunshots while the ship sank into the water were everyone dies.
After a long time of walking Rainsford finds 2 at a house in the middle of nowhere. Rainsford decides to knock and meets thes 2 guys and goes in and starts talking to them. They soon start knowing each other and one of them is called General Zaroff whos is a hunter and his henchmen named Ivan.
After a long time of talking Zaroff mentions, he's getting bored of hunting animals and hunts humans and wants Rainsford to join him but Rainsford doesn't like it and denies. Zaroff then later said that if Rainsford doesn't join him he would be hunted and Rainsford agrees to be hunted.
The day of the Hunt Zaroff tells Rainsford about his plans and why he can't win because he has dogs and is experienced. After they set off Rainsford sets traps that had gotten all of Zaroffs dogs but not him so Zaroff went back home and went to sleep so he could continue the hunt tomorrow.
At the end of the Short Story Rainsford goes back to Zaroffs house and try finding ways to kill him. Rainsford first kills Ivan then goes to Zaroff and kills him. Before Zaroff is absolutely killed he says his last word, “I see,” he said. “Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford," then dies.
