its lauries first day of kindergarten and his mother is just realizing how grown up her little boy is already.
"BOOM" the door slams open as laurie bursts in, "is anybody home?!" he yells.
“All right,” he said. (his father asks another question) Laurie regarded his father coldly. “I didn’t learn nothing,” he said.
“How was school today?” I asked, elaborately casual. "laurie responds" “Did you learn anything?” his father asked.
"the teacher spanked a kid at school today, he was being fresh," Laurie said. (his dad asks another question) Laurie thought. “It was Charles,” he said. “He was fresh. The teacher spanked him and made him stand in a corner. He was awfully fresh.”
"anything? anything at all?" said Laurie's father. (Laurie responds) “What did he do?” I asked. “Who was it?”
"charles was bad again", laurie said. "he hit the teacher". laurie said with an enormous grin.
"what?", his father said looking up.
"it's fine he bound to meet people like Charles better sooner than later", her husband said.
“Do you think kindergarten is too unsettling for Laurie? All this toughness, and bad grammar, and this Charles boy sounds like such a bad influence.”
