The battle of Fort Sumpter was the start of the civil war, the confederates fired the first shot that marked the beginning of a long and bloody battle between the North and the South.

By the afternoon, the union, led by Ulysses Grant, helped create a clear battle line known as the hornets nest. The Union ended up with a victory.
The battle of Antietam was one of the next to follow Shiloh. The union was led by George McClellan, and the confederates led by, Robert Lee. The union needed to stop the confederates from passing throgh Maryland, which they sucessfully did. The union forced them back into Virginia, which led to the Emancipation Procmation.
