Nelly agrees to go to her best friend, Bryce's house for a sleepover with a few other of her friends. Only Bryce knows of Nelly's big secret, her fear of thunder and lightning.
The girls get there and realize that a storm is coming. Nelly starts to regret going but she stays knowing it'll make her best friend happy and fears that the other girls may make fun of her phobia.
As the night progresses the storm gets stronger and the girls decide to play truth or dare. Nelly never likes to choose dare so they asked her what her biggest fear was and Nelly told them thunder and lightening. Shockingly the girls tried to comfort Nelly instead of ridiculing her. Noticing that thunder and lightning were soon going to occur all the girls get nervous.
The girls decide that its best if they all just lay down and go to bed. Within half an hour Nelly is asleep as well as the rest of the girls. Nelly awakens in a pool of sweat with chest pain and a nauseous feeling. She doesn't know that the thunder and lightning had already started, she goes into a panic attack and awakes all her friends with her ragged breaths and weezing.
Nelly sees a flash of light through the curtains and it scares her that she hides behind Bryce. As the girls gather around to calm Nelly they hear thunder and Nelly has a break down. The girls try as much as possible to soothe Nelly but nothing is working.
Bryce's parents knew of Nelly's phobia and were prepared that it being a stormy night and all. They had downloaded meditation apps that Nelly's parents typically use on her. Within an hour Nelly was sound asleep and didn't wake for the rest of the night. The comfort and support from her friends and the breathing exercises helped calm her. All of her friends in addition to the exercises decided to give Nelly exposure therapy at least twice a week to help her.... (a year later Nelly overcame her phobia of thunder and lightning)
