King Louis XIV became the king of France after the death of Louis Xiii. However, cardinal Mazarin was a true ruler. he increased taxes and helped the power of the central government which mad many nobles do not like him. this started the nobles revolt which filed but caused king Louis to seek revenge since the nobles threatened him.
after the death of Jean Baptiste Colbert, King Louis XIV didn't manage the country's economics nearly as well as colbert did. He announced policies that slowed Frances economic development and canceled the edict of Nantes.
One of Louis' weaknesses are his vanity . he often ate large feasts at meals and called himself "the sun king'. However he did an excellent job controlling the nobility. he required many nobles to live with him inside the castle. This made most of them dependent on him and overall increased his power.
over the length of Louis regin he started many wars. he gained serval towns and the region of Franche-comte in the invasion of the Spanish Netherlands. he continued to start several wars but eventually a European-wide alliance was formed against France to stop louis conquests. these wars overall weekend France and brought pain to the citizens of France
Afther the death of king louis XIV, he left a lastig legacy. although, he helped france become a formidable power he brought lots of debts to the country due to his constant warfare. he also helped farance become one of Europe's leaders of art, literature, and statesmanship.
