  • Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. When she was young she fell ill and became deaf and blind. She became an important influence on how deaf and blind people are treated. She was one of the first people to learn braille and used hand signals by touch.

  • Heinicke was born on April 10, 1727 in Nautschutz, Germany. He was not deaf, but he had a serious passion for teaching. He believed deaf people should learn to speak and communicate orally. He opened the first oral school for the deaf.

  • Cochlear implants were created in 1972. A cochlear implant gives deaf people the chance to hear sound. Some of the deaf community is offended by this because it is a threat to their culture.

  • Nyle Dimarco was born May 8, 1989 in New York. He is a 30 year old model and deaf enthusiasts. When Dimarco became a model he used Hollywood as a platform to support the deaf community. He founded the Nyle Dimarco Foundation that empowers positive deaf identities in all aspects of life 
  • Hoy was born May 23, 1862 in Houcktown, Ohio. He is the most successful deaf baseball player. He used his fame to aid to the needs of deaf children. He faced many trials being a deaf baseball player. but he was still the most successful
  • In the year of 1892, Gaulladet was playing one of their rivals. Quarterback, Paul Hubbard, noticed the other team watching them sign and figure out their plays. He gathered his team into, what we call today, a huddle so the other team could not see their signs. The huddle became known worldwide and is now used in almost every sport .
