He is at his house which is on the river, and he has a neighbor named Sheila Mant next door who he really likes.
Will you go to the fair with me?
He has this major love for her, and all he wants is for him to notice her but she won't. He isn't sure if she feels the same way as he does.
He watches Sheila as she walks outside of her house. He tries as hard as he can to impress her. He practices his swimming in the river, and he practices diving of his dock.
Finally, after watching her for so long he goes up to her and asks her if she would go to the fair with him. She says yes, but only if you have a way to get me there.
She decides to ride with him so he goes and cleans his canoe as much as he can. They paddle the canoe across the river, but he decides to fish while doing that. He gets his fish and line caught, and Sheila gets very impatient and just wants to get to the fair. Eventually they get everything unstuck and make it to the fair.
They go to the fair where she actually notices him and it makes him happy but then she decides it took him to long to get over, so she decides to go home with another boy, Eric which makes him quite sad.
