  • French Revolution: Introduction
  • Factors that led to the Revolution
  • The main purpose of the French Revolution was to address the financial problems of the regime. 
  • Meeting of the Estates General
  • Nobility
  • Clergy
  • Common People
  • The French Revolution was from Jul 14, 1789 – Nov 9, 1799. The French Revolution was a period of time in France when the people overthrew the monarchy and took control of the government.
  • The Tennis Court Oath
  • There was problem between the Monarchy and the nobility over the “reform” of the tax system. France was costly in profligate spending by King Louis XVI. Their were new rules about the government.
  • The Storming of the Bastille
  • The Clergy was the rich and poor mixed. They were wealthy members of the First Estate. The Nobility were inherited into their place of the Second Estate and got their wealth from their land. Everyone else/the common people were the Third Estate and they were the largest group in France. They are the ones who aren't the First or Second Estate.
  • The Great Fear
  • The National Assembly was locked out of their meeting room. So they met up in a indoor tennis courts and made an oath to never leave until they drawn up a new constitution.
  • The Bastille was attacked on July 14th, 1789. It was attacked by a mob looking for gunpowder and a Paris prison. People of the third estate wanted to gather weapons to defend Paris.
  • The Great Fear was a wave of senseless panic through Frnace where peasants became outlaws themselves. They were armed with pitchforks, broke into nobles manors and destroyed documents that contracted them to pay feudal dues.
