  • One day, while James and Patrick were playing in their yard, they noticed smoke miles away.
  • They decided to ask Patrick´s parents. They explained what power plants are.
  • Power plants are a source of energy.
  • But they do pollute the environment.
  • Then why are there power plants?
  • Well, sweetie, I don´t really know.
  • The closer you got to the power plants, the more likely you´d see water pollution and, if you were near water, dead fish.
  • Because of the sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and other chemicals being released to the atmosphere, acid rain occurs.
  • The acid rain pollutes the environment and animal´s habitats. The rain can also help eat away at aluminum on cars.
