  • BUNKER HILL
  • Lexington and Concord
  • Trenton
  • Militia went to the top of the Bunker Hill, so British wouldn't get high ground. Militia had little ammo and every shot counts " don't fire ". British tried 3 times to take hill and had big losses. Colony militia was defeated third attack. Bunker Hill helped lead colonial leaders towards declaring Independence.
  • SARATOGA
  • British trying to take away Colonists' military supplies in Concord. Colonist militia not able to hold the British at Lexington. Colony militia defeated British at Concord. This was The first battle of Revolution. Shot heard around the world.
  • Valley Forge
  • Washington and troops crossed Delaware/ Christmas Day to sneak up on the British/ Hessian Army. Continental Army defeated British and they retreated to New York. British learned Colonist were " formidable enemy". The important part is that wave of support and enthusiasm for American cause and help increase recruitment and more victories.
  • Battle of Yorktown
  • Americans built up fortifications. Benedict Arnold staged a counterattack and surrounded British. There was a British surrender. One of the Colonal Langdon's men was Wentworth Cheswell, African American official from mass. encouraged others to join the other Patriots cause. Turning point in the American Revolution, victories boosted morale and convinced France that the Americans could win this war.
  • The Continental Army went to Valley Forge to regroup. British stayed in Philadelphia. There was no food for Continental Army and many soldiers did not have the correct gear for winter. Congress would not help the Continental Army, so they had to set up their own supply lines and living spaces. 6/19/1778 the Continental Army  marched out of the Valley Forge as a confident, disciplined leader.
  • Continental Army and French soldiers trapped British on Yorktown peninsula. 8,000 British vs 17,00 troops of US and French. British surrendered. This was the last major battle of the war. Inspired many people around the world to fight for  freedom and Independence.
