  • In the early 1300, a poor peasant who renamed himself Hong Wu overthrew the Mongol Dynasty
  • Under Hong Wu, local government was reorganized and reformed, a new tax system was put in place and new law codes were enforced with Confucionism again the official doctrine. 
  • Many farmers moved into the northern region and crops like corn and potatoes became very plentiful
  • Artisans were also busy, creating silk, porcelian, and other in-demand goods for the growing population.
  • In later years, rulers stayed inside this forbidden city and seldom did the work required to rule the kingdom, eventually weakening the dynasty and opening the region to overthrow by the Manchus
  • Ming rule was partly undone with fiscal problems which contributed to financial issues
