Storyboard Text

  • Flamingos stand on one leg,but no one knows why.Do you ?
  • I don't know.Lets go to the lab and find a book about it
  • I found the book it's called ''All About Flamingos''.Hopefully we will find out more
  • Flamingos have balance aids built into their bodies, the new study finds.
  • The balance aids in their body helps them balance on one leg .Balancing on one leg helps them save energy and escape predators.
  • There is also some information from an experiment in the book, let's read it.
  • I guess that's why flamingos stand on one leg .
  • As a bird stood on one foot ,the instrument tracked changes in the foot’s center of pressure. This spot wobbled around as a bird shifted to preen.
  • When birds were dozing, their center of pressure moved within a radius of 3.2 millimeters (0.1 inch),on average. That center of pressure expanded to 5.1 millimeters when the birds were active.
  • Let's go back to the beach!
  • Sadly we can't balance on one leg for long but at least we figured why flamingos do it.
