Jimmy Carter sought to run the country in a very informal way compared to past presidents. He addressed the nation in a cardigan sweater and tried to retain his moral values from his deep religious faith. He promised to never lie to the American people.
In 1979, Islamic student militants seized 66 American and held them hostage, demanding the Shah's return to stand trial. Carter approved a secret military mission to free the hostages.
