Storyboard Text

  • On September 12, 1779, The French landed in Georgia to help the Loyalists take Savannah back from the British.
  • The Loyalists met up with the French south of South of Savannah and made a battle plan.
  • The first part was a feint attack. The Loyalist militia involved was overpowered very quickly.
  • The second part also didn't fare well because the militia, who exited the swamp they were navigating in the wrong spot, was swiftly driven back.
  • The main attack had two groups. The French group had three columns of soldiers attacking. The Loyalists had a group of infantry followed by a group of horsemen.
  • Both groups had terrible coordination and quickly got decimated. Over 800 soldiers died on the side of the French and the Loyalists, while 18 died on the British side.
