  • In 1941, Congress passed the Lend-Lease Act, which allowed President Roosevelt to lend or lease weapons, supplies, and equipment to any country whose defense was critical to U.S. security
  • On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Japanese bombers struck just before 8 a.m., before many Americans at the naval base were even awake. The surprise attack sank or damaged 8 U.S. battleships, 13 other ships, and 188 airplanes. More than 2,000 people lost their lives
