  • Marchers don't get far until they are stopped. Bloody Sunday occurs the first attempt to march.
  • The second attempt, police let them through.
  • King turned marchers around, believing the troopers were doing so to create opportunity that would allow them to prohibit the march.
  • President Lyndon B. Johnson goes on television to announce his support for the Selma protesters.
  • 50,000 supporters- both black and white-reach Montgomery.
